The Citizen's Campaign for the Environment spelled out why it supports Wind Energy and even commented on the studies that were done to the Jordanville Wind Project.
To give you an idea of how concerned residents should be about the SOUND
of WIND TURBINES, listen to
what others have to say. Take time to listen to the The
New York Wind Power video. It is 16 minutes long, but about 3 minutes
and 30 seconds in, you can hear different points of view about noise from
people who live near a wind turbine.
Wind Energy Development and the Agricultural Community
Do you understand the electricity
grid and how it works? Wind is currently
integrated into the grid without the use of "reserves". Although intermittent,
the amount wind going on the grid does not cause enough fluctuation in
the daily "regulation" to call on reserves to back it up. Either way, the
grid reserves system is pretty efficient as it diversifies the sources
used for back up. Read about what FORE learned at our Electricity Grid
Seminar with Ken Klapp
of the New
York Independent System Operator!
JORDANVILLE WIND PROJECT
Otsego 2000 of Cooperstown is complaining about the VISUAL IMPACTS of the turbines on their historic district and residents of the town. While
FORE supports the protection of historic and cultural sites, we also agree
with
the NYS
DEC
that "mere
visibility should not be considered a threshold for decision making", especially
miles away. Take a look at the images
from the SDEIS and you can see these
turbines will not be adversely impacting the historical district or diminishing
Cooperstown residents' quality of life.
Take a look at the VIEWSHED ANALYSYS from
JMA, Inc. and note that, when you take into account topography and vegetation,
turbines
are not going
to be as visible as one might think! If you are standing in a place that
is pink within the yellow circle the turbines will not be visible. That
is a lot of pink! |
